Exercise Classes

LACOMBE

Exercise programs in Lacombe are led by Exercise Specialist Kristi Lem. They are provided at no or minimal cost by the Wolf Creek Primary Network. If you have a family doctor in Lacombe you have access to these programs. Some programs may not require a referral and are available to all - please see individual descriptions below. Call 403-782-1408 for more information or to register.


  • SUPERVISED EXERCISE PROGRAM

    • This program is an exercise class for anyone living with a chronic health condition such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc. Learn how to use gym exercise equipment and understand the principles of exercise with instruction and guidance from an exercise professional. This class runs 2 times per week for 8 weeks. There is no cost. Registration is required. Participants can register for sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00-10:30am or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-10:30am. The supervised exercise program is run out of the Snap Fitness location in Lacombe and is a partnership between the PCN and Snap Fitness Lacombe.

    • Session 1: January 13 - March 5, 2020 (FULL)

    • Session 2: March 16 - May 7, 2020


  • AGING WELL

    • Aging Well is an instructor led exercise class for adults with a focus on improving strength, stamina, and balance through functional fitness training. This is a low impact exercise class which includes seated and standing exercises using provided resistance bands and your own body weight. This class runs for 10 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00am-12:00pm. There is a $10 cost that is payed when you attend the first class (cash only). Aging Well runs out of the Kozy Korner and is a partnership between the PCN and Kozy Korner. Registration is required. Drop by the Kozy Korner to register.

    • Session 1: January 13 - March 18, 2020

  • BACK STRONG

    • Exercise class for the prevention and treatment of low back pain. Learn safe and effective exercises to strengthen and stabilize your back and core. Participants will need to provide their own yoga mat and foam roller. This class runs for 6 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00-2:00pm. There is no cost. Registration is required.

    • Session 1: January 13 - February 19, 2020

    • Session 2: March 16 - April 22, 2020


INNISFAIL

Exercise programs in Innisfail are led by Exercise Specialist Brad Pawluik. They are provided at no or minimal cost by the Wolf Creek Primary Network. If you have a family doctor in Innisfail you have access to these programs. Some programs may not require a referral and are available to all - please see individual descriptions below. Call 403-227-3356 for more information or to register.


  • MOVERS AND GROOVERS

    • Movers and Groovers is an activity and exercise group for adults. It is a partnership between the PCN, Town of Innisfail, and FCSS. The program runs throughout the year from the September long weekend to the May long weekend. The group meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00-11:00am at the Library Learning Centre. There is no cost. Individuals participate on a drop-in basis, i.e. no registration required, and may attend as many days as they like. In fact, consistent participation is encouraged!

    • During the hour Brad leads a follow-along exercise program focused on strength and balance training as well as stretching. It is safe and appropriate for a wide range of fitness levels. Exercises are done seated and standing using your own body weight and resistance bands that are provided. The goal of the program is to maintain and develop muscular strength and endurance, balance, and flexibility. Bring a water bottle, clean indoor shoes, and wear comfortable clothing.

    • Movers and Groovers has a strong social component. You will have the chance to meet and interact with many individuals from the Innisfail and surrounding area. Social events are held occasionally throughout the year (e.g. catered lunch). They are voluntary and may have a small cost. If you want to exercise in a group setting led by an exercise professional, with great music playing and a social atmosphere, come try Movers and Groovers!


  • SUPERVISED EXERCISE PROGRAM (PENHOLD)

    • The supervised exercise program is run out of the Penhold Multiplex Fitness Centre and is a partnership between the PCN and Fitness Centre. This program is for those who wish to exercise in a gym with instruction, guidance, and supervision of an exercise professional. Brad will meet with you individually in the Innisfail Medical Clinic before joining the program to discuss your health and fitness. From there, an individualized exercise program will be developed for you. You will then be taught how to perform your exercise program safely in the gym over the first few weeks of the program with the ultimate goal of you being able to continue exercising independently.

    • The program currently runs Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Penhold Multiplex Fitness Centre from 9:00-11:00am. The only cost for the program is the monthly membership to the gym (e.g. $20/month for those aged 55+).
